The main character in “The Ralph Fiennes Patrol” is not the preeminent leading man of Strange Days, but is in fact a bit-part punk rocker whose aspirations of fame have manifested themselves in the guise of Fiennes, who to him signifies the ultimate “overnight” success story. It’s almost as if our meek, decent narrator feels himself too small to even warrant his own eponymous song title. We first meet him along a sideroad ditch as he attempts to again repair his band’s broken-down gig van, and fantasizes: first, of the image of Fiennes, himself in a perfectly-operational vehicle zipping by into the vanishing point of “the highway to fame.”
